It's tempting to think of it as a paddling lake, but it isn't: Barker is part of the City of Boulder's municipal water supply, so boating, paddling, swimming, and wading are all prohibited year round. What you can do is fish from the shoreline with a valid Colorado fishing license. If you're set on paddling, that's a Gross Reservoir or Boulder Reservoir trip, not a Barker one.
Mud Lake and West Magnolia trails
For an easy leg-stretcher close to town, Mud Lake Open Space sits a couple of miles north of Nederland, with gentle multi-use trails through the forest and dogs allowed on leash.
